Another reason for regular tuneups is you have your car running cleaner.With such a strong emphasis to cleaner air through cleaner emmissions it is really important.Because what will happen is if you don’t care for your car you will have a good chance of failing a smog check.  I have seen older cars that when taken care of pass with flying colors in my San Diego smog check shop by doing regular tune ups.  I have seen the other way around as well.  Cars that weren’t taken care of fail miserably.

Finally probably the most important part of your car is your brakes.But people don’t pay attention to it all the time.  By neglecting your brakes and not maintaining it you risk bigger repair costs.  In my San Diego brake shop I see cars have expensive brake repair jobs because they didn’t do simple maintenance. By just keeping an eye on their brakes.Or if regular maintenance and checks were done on it, that could have save them money.

One of the most expensive auto repairs you can do is a transmission repair.  It is a big part of your car.Making sure to care for it is important.By doing some maintenance on your car you will end up saving a lot of money.Since it is something you won’t be able to fix yourself, you still can do some checking at home.By having some of the checking done at home you can see if it needs to be brought in.

First off since I own a San Marcos Auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first.  This way they can make sure they need to come in.  First off they can check the fluid.  The fluid should be clear.If you find that the fluid is black or dark, that is a warning sign of problems and the car has to be brought in.

Second thing they can check at home is to check the gear shifting.You accomplish this by simply moving the gears from park to drive.  Or you can move it from park to reverse.  What you are looking for is for the gears to shift smoothly.What you hope doesn’t happen is a jerking motion.If you notice that there is jerking, this is a bad sign that there is a problem with your transmission.  In my Carlsbad transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.Quite a few cars that are brought in have this problem.

Finally you can check for any leaks of your transmission fluid.  You once again check this with your dipstick.But you won’t be able to tell unless you do this checking regularly.  I advise all my customers in my Carlsbad auto repair shop to always check your fluids.  People are familiar with checking for oil.But their transmission fluid is something they need to check also.  This way they can tell if their fluid is leaking.

One of the most expensive repairs a car can have are transmission problems. Most cars are built well nowadays.But it will be broken over time and it is vey expensive to fix.So you should make sure that you regularly maintain the transmission of your vehicle. With that in mind let’s look at some signs of transmission problems.

First signs of problems with the transmission is usually the fluids.  If you go to check the fluid with a dipstick it can give you a sign. If you find that the fluid is low it could be a sign of a leak.  If the fluid is dark or has a burnt smell that is a sure sign of problems.  So to make sure your car doesn’t suffer any severe transmission damage always check your fluids. If you observe one these signs then that would also be a sign for you that you need to go immediately to an auto repair shop.  I catch a lot of transmission problems early in my San Marcos transmission repair shop with these signs alone.

Another sign of a problem of your transmission would be when there is a delay when you are shifting it into drive. If it takes your gear a moment to get in place when you shift then that would be a sign of problem. That problem is called as the delay of engagement. This could be caused by a worn out transmission or another problem. I have all my clients take it into my San Marcos auto repair shop anytime they get the delayed engagement problem.

And last sign would be when the gears are jerky when shifting it while driving.All the shifitng done when one is driving should not be jerky and should not slip.  This is the sign of a worn transmission if your car jerks everytime it shifts gear. One trend that is gaining steam is when someone is buying a used car, they want the maintenance records.  People are looking to see if a used car has a maintenance record. Because after all if somebody took care of a car you can trust it will last longer. So if you own a car it is very important to keep all the records of service.Because a lot of buyers will want to take a look at that.

So one of the things you want to make sure to do is to keep a receipt of all service you do for your car.  In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.  Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same.  This could mean the difference in getting the price you want or settling for a lot less.

Also whenever you take your car in for a tune up keep a record of it.Getting your vehicle tuned up on a regular schedule will help it run longer and smoother.  It also helps to get your car to pass a smog test much easier.  In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finallly even for getting your brakes serviced you want to make sure to keep good records of that service.This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance.  It is also something a potential buyer will look at.  Because the last thing a new buyer wants is a big expensive brake service they need.  So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you fully understand how important it is to maintain your vehicles if you want to sell it.A lot of buyers now want a history of mainteance for the cars they want to buy.By taking care to keep all maintenance records you will be able to prove that you did maintain it.

It is a new day and time.  The economy has changed.With it, most Americans have less spending money today as they did before.  In terms of the car industry you can see it.With the auto industry seemingly always losing money, you have to know that it is because people just aren’t buying big items. 

With that being the case most Americans will have to keep all their cars much longer.  Keeping a car longer will require maintenance.  The better you can take care of your car the longer it will last.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of those things that can be so easily passed over is making sure your car runs clean. Why does this matter?Because you can’t keep your care running efficiently this could lead to the failure of the smog test.If you can’t pass the smog test, this can be the start of some expensiver repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

All you really need to do is to be sure that you change the oil on a regular schedule.  Also make sure you keep it tuned up with regular tune ups.

Second issue not handled all the time is taking care of your brakes.You don’t really watch for it as much as you should.  But everybody agrees they are important for safety.But if you are not diligent in caring for them, this will be an expensive repair.  I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.

Be sure that when you are braking that you do not be too rough on them. Be prepared for all your stops and then apply the brakes slowly.  Also make sure the brake fluids are enough.This can add up to a lot of money saved in repairs.

One of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people.  You see people talking on the phone, doing makeup, reading, etc. while driving. 

But if you really step back and think about it, everytime your drive a car, your life is on the line.Whoever is at fault isn’t the focal point of this article, but accidents do happen.

One of the ways accidents are caused is through brake failure.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.  Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight.  But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.  After all, your life and maybe even your family’s safety depends upon it.

With that in essence being the case, maintaining your breaks can be quite easy.You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.

Either way, the brake fluid level and the brake pad conditions are the two main things to look at.If you are vigilant in keeping these two points maintained, your brakes will be safe. 

When you do perform a brake fluid check, all you have to do is find the fluid reservoir level.It is more often than not marked with a ‘min’ line and a ‘max line’.  Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.

Also make sure the brake fluid is clear or yellow in color.  If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy maintenance.The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop. 

Most of the times your brake pads will let you know that they need to be replaced by making that loud screeching sound during braking.

If so, have them checked and replaced as soon as possible. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.

With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.

Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.
